Turns out, the Starship Enterprise was not the first iteration of the name Enterprise. The original Enterprise was actually a Continental Navy schooner that served in Lake Champlain during the American Revolutionary War back in 1775. Since then, the United States Navy has christened 8 more vessels with the name Enterprise, NASA followed up the designation with their first orbiter of the Space Shuttle program, Virgin Galactic continued the trend with their private spaceplane, and countless other vessels found their way into the prestigious Enterprise line.
