So yes, you can technically rue anything. It just sounds weird to say it. For example:
- You’re going to rue that ruler! (Because it only measures 11 inches.)
- You’re going to rue those ruins! (Because they’re already kind of broken.)
- You’re going to rue this rue! (Because this shrubbery sure is pungent).
